Seamlessly woven into the autobiography of Yogananda (1893-1952) are tales about and insights into many great yoga teachers. Devoted to bringing Eastern teachings to the West, Yogananda (a disciple of a disciple of Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri) traveled in the U.S. during the 1920s and '30s. Of his autobiography, the San Francisco Chronicle said, "Yogananda presents a convincing case for yoga, and those who 'came to scoff' may remain 'to pray.'"
