I don’t know how to say this without offending any powers that be, so I’ll just say it.

A couple of weeks ago, I was told that someone at the RNC was trying to reach me. Finally got back to them yesterday and found out that they were inviting me to what I understand is sort of an election-year kick-off event, timed around the March For Life, organized by the RNC’s outreach division. Outreach to Catholics, I take it.

Vaguely flattered, I was more astonished than anything else. Do I strike anyone out there as a window-dressing for the GOP? Life issues are my issues, indeed, and while the GOP is, of course, far better than the Dems on this on paper, in practice they’re anything but convincing as a group. But that’s not really the point. The point is that I’m a little distressed that anyone would think that I’d lend my name to the support of a particular political party, not that my name would be worth much anyway.

So I just said I wasn’t going to the March for Life this year.
