In El Paso…they have

Religious leaders around the nation and in El Paso are taking a political lead in fighting what they see as a punitive and unfair approach to immigration reform.

Looking at the possibility that their church could soon be penalized for helping undocumented immigrants, the priest and the parishioners at St. Pius X Catholic Community decided to act.

Saturday, they climbed to the roof of the church at 1050 N. Clark to hang two large banners from the copper dome. The signs, visible from Interstate 10, say, "Immigrants Welcome — Oppose H.R. 4437."
