In Chicago:

A prominent Chicago priest has called on Cardinal Francis George to resign his position as head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago if he impeded the removal of a priest accused of molesting young boys when the allegations first arose last year.

During his homilies on Sunday, the Rev. William Kenneally, the longtime pastor of St. Gertrude’s parish in the Edgewater neighborhood, read aloud from a Feb. 4 Chicago Sun-Times column titled "Saving face trumps saving children" by Sue Ontiveros about her disappointment in George’s handling of the new allegations of abuse.

Kenneally, St. Gertrude’s pastor for 22 years who is set to retire in July, then added his own comments about George.

"I said that if it’s true what some people say, that he countermanded the mission, if that is true, then he should" resign, Kenneally said Monday.
