Kris Jenner is grieving the loss of the woman she called the heart of her family.

On Thursday, the reality television star and businesswoman announced that her mother, Mary Jo “MJ” Campbell, had died at 91, sharing a heartfelt tribute that reflected on the faith, resilience, and unconditional love that have shaped generations of the Kardashian-Jenner family.

“Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ,” Jenner wrote on Instagram. “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye.”

Jenner described her mother as the family’s foundation, saying MJ taught her the values that mattered most in life. “She taught me everything that truly matters… to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted,” she wrote. “She taught us that family is everything.”

As Jenner reflected on her mother’s legacy, one detail stood out: the role faith played in helping MJ navigate life’s hardships. She wrote that MJ “showed me how to face life’s challenges with resilience and faith,” a lesson that remained with her throughout her life and career.

The emotional message continued with Jenner thanking her mother for every sacrifice she made and every lesson she passed down. “Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us,” she wrote. “Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together.”

Jenner also expressed gratitude to God for the blessing of having MJ as her mother.

“When I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us,” she wrote. “There is not a part of me that isn’t shaped by you… I will forever thank God every single day for making you my mommy.”

MJ became a familiar face to millions of viewers through her appearances on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and later The Kardashians. Fans appreciated her quick wit, gentle personality, and close relationships with her grandchildren, including Kim, Kourtney, Khloé, Rob, Kendall, and Kylie.

Following Jenner’s announcement, several family members shared their own tributes. Kim Kardashian called her grandmother her “best friend” and “gossip buddy,” remembering the work ethic and confidence MJ instilled in her after giving her a job at the family’s San Diego children’s boutique years ago. Kylie Jenner also honored her grandmother by sharing a nostalgic video from the family’s reality show.

MJ’s death comes just over two years after the unexpected passing of Jenner’s younger sister, Karen Houghton, in 2024. In both moments of loss, Jenner has pointed to the importance of family, gratitude, and cherishing every moment together.

While fans knew MJ as a warm and humorous presence on television, Jenner’s tribute painted an even fuller picture of a woman whose legacy reached far beyond reality TV. Her lessons about love, kindness, resilience, and faith continue to shape her family—and, according to Jenner, will be carried forward for generations to come.
