Over the holidays we got to see a lot of family.  It was really awesome.  To do that, however, you have to do a lot of travelling and a lot of sleeping in unfamiliar places.  Sleeping gets even tougher when you have two small girls.  We made a brilliant decision and forgot our youngest’s play pin.  So, when there wasn’t one to borrow, we were pinning her in with suitcases, dresser drawers, and piano benches.

The problem came when my three year old slept on a couch she wasn’t used too.  In the middle of the night she rolled over, fell off the couch, and screamed.  It woke the whole house up.  Yes…I know I am awful… that was actually my first thought when it happened.

Roll, thud, scream… Oh no she is going to wake everyone up.

I got her quieted down and in bed as fast as I could.  It wasn’t until the next day that I felt like a terrible father.  Right smack on the top of her forehead was a large welp where she had hit her head from the fall.

And that’s not the plan: To rush around and get stuff “fixed” at the cost of realizing what the issue really is.
