Grammy-winning singer and outspoken Christian Tori Kelly has announced that she and husband André Murillo are expecting their first child, describing the baby as a “gift from God.”
Kelly, 32, who is currently on tour in Europe with Ed Sheeran, shared the joyful news in a heartfelt interview with People magazine.
“This year has already been full of highs — getting to perform in stadiums all summer, writing the most personal songs of my career and now getting to start a family with my amazing husband,” Kelly said. “We are just so grateful for what’s to come and can’t wait to meet this little gift from God.”
The singer revealed the news alongside a touching video montage of intimate moments with Murillo, 35, including scenes at home and on the beach. The clip featured a snippet from her upcoming music, where she sings about love, commitment, and embracing the future:
“Only you know me, mind and my body, riding with you down this road, we got forever to go… I’m ready for what comes next.”
Kelly and Murillo, a former professional basketball player, began dating in 2016 and married in a private ceremony in May 2018. Their announcement comes as Kelly continues to celebrate the release of her latest album, TORI. (+ a little more), which dropped in April 2024, less than a year after a serious health scare when she was hospitalized with life-threatening blood clots in July 2023.
Known for her powerful voice and faith-filled testimony, Kelly has never shied away from sharing how her walk with God shapes her music and personal life. She previously told The Christian Post that faith is “part of who I am,” explaining:
“Anyone who knows me personally… [faith is] a part of who I am. I can’t do what I do… God, Jesus always comes up at some point. It’s been such a part of my life, in my childhood growing up. But then, at a certain point, it became very personal to me.”
Kelly has often drawn comfort from Psalm 91:4, which reads, “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” She said the verse has reminded her of the peace God offers in the middle of life’s chaos.
“I just love that visual of having a safe place, having this place of refuge when the world is crazy… It helps me stay grounded, reminding myself I’m loved by God and listening to who He says I am instead of what the world says.”
Kelly’s gospel album Hiding Place with Kirk Franklin earned her a Grammy for Best Gospel Performance/Song in 2018. She has continued to blend faith and artistry throughout her career, using her platform to encourage others while remaining rooted in truth.
