In the weeks following an unimaginable loss, Alex Vesia and his wife, Kayla, have been learning how to take life one day at a time.
The Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher and his wife announced in November that their infant daughter, Sterling Sol Vesia, had passed away. In a heartbreaking joint statement shared at the time, the couple wrote, “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday Oct. 26.” The message stopped many fans and fellow players in their tracks, prompting an outpouring of prayers and support.
Now, months later, Kayla is speaking publicly for the first time since the tragedy. In an emotional video posted to TikTok, Kayla admitted she is still struggling to find the right words.
“You know, I don’t have much to say, honestly,” she shared. “Alex and I are just trying to get through it every day. Every day’s so different for us right now, and I don’t really have the words.”
Her message, which runs more than two minutes, isn’t polished or scripted. Instead, it’s raw and honest—exactly where many grieving parents find themselves. Kayla said she felt compelled to speak simply to express gratitude to those who have surrounded them with love.

“It just felt right to come on here and say ‘Thank you,’” she said. “I am really grateful for the community of you guys, and just expressing your support and love towards us. It really has brought us a lot of comfort during this.”
Alex and Kayla were married in 2024 and announced they were expecting their first child in April 2025. In the months that followed, they joyfully shared pregnancy updates and photos, inviting fans into their excitement about becoming parents.
Shortly before last year’s World Series, Alex stepped away from the team to deal with what the Dodgers described as a “deeply personal matter.” He did not appear in any games during the seven-game series. At the time, the organization offered privacy and support, allowing him to be with his family when they needed him most.
Kayla also acknowledged that she’s unsure what sharing online will look like moving forward, but she feels called to speak when she can.
“I don’t know how much I’m going to share. I don’t know,” she said. “I don’t know the details of it, but I do know that I want to share, and if it can help somebody who’s going through the same thing, feel like they’re not alone.”
Alex finished the 2024 season with 68 regular-season appearances and pitched in seven postseason games. The Los Angeles Dodgers went on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games to win the 2025 World Series, securing their second consecutive championship.
