Honesty really does come from the mouths of children — even when it stings a little. HGTV star Christina Haack recently opened up about how her 10-year-old son, Brayden, gave her some tough love after her latest split.

The “Flip Off” and “Christina on the Coast” star revealed to Us Weekly that when she filed for divorce from her third husband, Joshua Hall, in 2024, her son had something to say that hit her hard but also made her reflect deeply.

“He was just like, ‘You’re a wonderful mom, you’re a great person. You’re, like, amazing, you just make really bad choices in men,’” Haack, 42, admitted.

Brayden, whom Haack shares with her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa, had been staying close to her during those painful early days.

“When we first split up, Brayden, my 10-year-old, he slept in bed with me,” she said. “He was speaking life into me.”

Haack laughed as she recalled him adding, “Dad’s the best, but you make bad choices. Sorry, Tarek, he loves you, obviously.”

For Christina, her children’s honesty has been eye-opening. She noted that Brayden and his older sister Taylor weren’t surprised when she and Hall split after two years of marriage.

“The kids would bring it up to me,” she shared. “‘Dad and Heather [Rae El Moussa] hold hands. Dad and Heather are cuddly … You guys don’t like each other. You don’t even look at each other like you like each other.’”

Hearing that from her children was heartbreaking.

“That’s a really sad thing to hear. And I’m like, ‘What am I doing showing them that this is normal? I’m not happy — and they can see that.’ It’s such a lesson,” Haack reflected.

Christina shares Brayden and Taylor with El Moussa, whom she married in 2009 and divorced in 2018. She also shares her youngest son, Hudson, 6, with her second husband, Ant Anstead.

Christina and Joshua Hall married in 2022, but by July 2024, their relationship had unraveled. Their divorce was finalized in August, and Hall didn’t hold back his feelings online.

On Instagram, he posted a photo of himself in a cowboy hat with the caption:

“Excited to spend Labor Day weekend in the real reality. Finally, legally divorced and a free man.”

He went on to say, “Lesson learned: don’t marry someone who needs constant public validation and will use your personal drama for attention.”

Despite the bitterness, a source close to Hall told Fox News Digital that the split was surprisingly fair. “This was one of the most fair divorces in reality TV history. Josh agreed to split everything he and Christina earned together, and they each walked away with everything they had made prior to the marriage.”

Though her relationship struggles have been highly public, Christina said her kids have been her anchor. Their honesty — even when it’s brutally funny — is rooted in love.

“He was just trying to protect me,” Haack said of Brayden’s comment. “It was so sweet.”

In the end, Christina admits that her children’s perspective has taught her valuable lessons about what they see, what they deserve, and what kind of example she wants to set for them moving forward.

For many, her story is a reminder that God can use even the most innocent voices — sometimes the little ones we tuck into bed at night — to point us back toward truth, healing, and better choices ahead.
