Chris Pratt is opening up about a life-altering moment that strengthened his faith and led him to make a promise to God. During a recent appearance on Fox & Friends, the Guardians of the Galaxy star reflected on the premature birth of his son, Jack, and how it shaped his spiritual journey.
In 2012, Jack was born seven weeks early, weighing just 3 pounds, 10 ounces. The experience was terrifying for Pratt and his then-wife, actress Anna Faris. Recalling the ordeal, he shared how it led him to fervent prayer and a heartfelt commitment to God.
“The most impactful moment was when my son was born,” Pratt said. “He was born early and had some health scares, and in that moment, I really made some deals with God, as you do when you’re praying. I felt like, ‘If you save my son, I will give you everything. I’ll give you my life. I’ll give you my platform. I won’t be ashamed to talk to You or talk about You.’ And He did save my son, and I’ve been trying to make good on that promise ever since.”
Pratt and Faris, who co-parent Jack following their 2017 split, endured a difficult journey during their son’s early days in the neonatal intensive care unit. However, Pratt believes that Jack’s survival was an answered prayer, further solidifying his faith.
In the years since Pratt has continued to share his Christian beliefs openly. In June 2019, he married Katherine Schwarzenegger, whom he met at church. Their relationship, he has said, was orchestrated by God, with Schwarzenegger’s mother, Maria Shriver, helping to introduce them. The couple tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Montecito, California, and have since welcomed two daughters, Lyla in August 2020 and Eloise in May 2022.
Pratt’s faith has played an integral role in his personal and professional life. He has never shied away from publicly acknowledging his reliance on God, often speaking about his faith journey in interviews and social media posts.
Recognizing the challenges young people face today, Pratt is also using his platform to encourage faith-based practices. He expressed concern over the effects of smartphones and social media on today’s youth, calling it a “tough time to be a kid.” However, he believes that these tools can also be used for good.
Recently, Pratt partnered with the Hallow prayer app, joining a growing number of Christian celebrities, including Mark Wahlberg and The Chosen star Jonathan Roumie. The app provides guided prayers, reflections, and daily Scripture readings to help people deepen their faith.
“It can be really hard to comprehend, to contextualize and to understand the Bible,” Pratt admitted. “The app does a really great job of breaking it into bite-size pieces, reading it to you, and then explaining to you what was just read.”
As part of his commitment to spiritual discipline, Pratt also revealed that he is giving up sugar and social media for Lent, 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving leading up to Easter.
Chris Pratt’s journey is a powerful testimony of God’s faithfulness and the transformative power of prayer. His willingness to share his faith with the world is a reminder of the importance of trusting in God, even in life’s most difficult moments. Whether through personal struggles, professional success, or family life, Pratt remains unashamed to speak about his relationship with Christ—just as he promised God years ago in that hospital room.
