Last time, I shared some of my favorite natural beauty products that are free of “yucky” chemicals.  Now I will share some of my favorite “yuck-free” household products.  Yes, unfortunately, many of the laundry detergents, dish detergents, cleaning products and even candles in the stores today are full of ingredients  that can lead to hormonal issues, reproductive issues, asthma, even cancer.  In fact, the average household today has 62 toxic chemicals in it.  I don’t know about you, but that’s 62 too many for me.  Read the labels and educate yourself… the information is out there!

And now on to my favs…

1.  Dr. Bronner’s Magic Castile Liquid Soap

castille

These castile liquid soaps from Dr. Bronner’s truly are magic.  They have an endless amount of uses – body wash, shampoo, dishwashing, laundry, mopping floors, rinsing vegetables, pest control or even washing your dog.  And they’re only made from a few simple ingredients including coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, hemp oil and jojoba oil.
2.  J.R. Watkins Window Cleaner

glass cleaner

This window cleaner from J.R. Watkins cleans every bit as well as the “traditional” cleaners but, like all J.R. Watkins products, it doesn’t contain any ammonia, bleach, dyes, formaldehyde, glycols, parabens, phosphates, phthalates or synthetic polymers.
3.  J.R. Watkins Toilet Bowl Cleaner

TB cleanser

Also from J.R. Watkins, this toilet bowl cleanser leaves the bowl looking fresh and clean with a lemony scent with no harsh chemicals.
4.  Zum Bar Soaps from Indigo Wild

Forget the foaming hand soaps full of harmful sulfates.  Put a Zum Bar by every sink in your home and you can rest assured that you aren’t harming your body every time you use them.  They’re made with only food-grade olive, coconut, palm and castor oils, goat’s milk, herbs, essential oils and aloe.  Plus, they come in a variety of heavenly scents that will make you want to keep switching it up!
5.  PL360 Odor Neutralizing Carpet Powder

Dog lovers, like me, know that carpets and pets don’t always mix.  Vacuuming can pick up the extra dog hair but it doesn’t always help with the pet odor.  A few sprinkles of this carpet powder from PL360 does the trick and it’s free of ammonia, bleach, sulfates, phosphates and phthalates.
6.  Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent

laundry

Seventh Generation’s Natural Laundry Detergent contains no dyes, brighteners or synthetic fragrances and uses plant and mineral-derived cleaning agents as well as essential oils and botanical extracts.
7.  Mrs. Meyer’s Scented Soy Candles

candle

Candles from chain stores are typically made from paraffin wax, which creates benzene and toluene – highly toxic carcinogens – when burned.  Don’t expose yourself to these dangerous fumes one day longer.  Instead, try these candles from Mrs. Meyer’s that have a vegetable wax base, a non-metal, lead-free wick and essential oils.
8.  The Honest Co. Auto Dishwasher Gel

dish gel

The Honest Co.’s products are plant-derived, non-toxic, biodegradable and never contain ammonia, glycol, dyes, phosphates, chlorine, bleach, DEA, formaldehyde and petrochemicals.  So their dish washing gel gets your dishes clean without harming you or your family.
9.  Citrus Magic Odor Eliminating Air Freshener

air freshener

Like a lot of people, I like to use an odor eliminating spray in the trash can when I change bags to give it a quick freshen-up.  But the most common brand of this type of spray on the market is full of toxic chemicals that can cause endocrine, respiratory and reproductive issues, skin irritation, vision damage, DNA damage and even cancer.  Who wants to spray that in their house?  Instead, I like using a few sprays of this air freshener by Citrus Magic that uses 100% natural citrus oils.

10.  J.R. Watkins Tub and Tile Cleaner

tub and tile

Just like all the other J.R. Watkins products, this tub & tile cleaner is free of ammonia, bleach, dyes, formaldehyde, glycols, parabens, phosphates, phthalates and synthetic polymers, but it still gets your bathroom sparkling clean, all with a great fresh scent!
