I’m shocked, shocked I tell you that a politician cheated on his wife. And I’m even more shocked that he would do so after advocating the sanctity of marriage in opposition to gay marriage:This is why it is a very bad idea for the religious right to align themselves with the Republican party in making this nation conform to their idea of a Christian nation. Republicans are no more moral than the Democrats or Christians themselves. It may be time for Republicans to abandon all hope of being the party that’s more moral than thou and realize that none of us can hold to these standards. Israel wasn’t able to do it, what makes us think we can? They had priests, sacrifices, the prophets and God, himself to help them be a nation that conformed to the law of God and they failed. What makes Christians think this can be a Christian nation with Republicans in charge? We have a lot less going for us as we see from Ensign’s example. He talks about the importance of marriage and yet he violated the covenant he made with his wife, can’t see that he has any business talking about it in public again. Here’s a suggestion for Ensign’s Republican colleagues: when you comment on Ensign don’t point the finger and say, “Tsk, tsk.” Instead say, “There but for the grace of God go I” And heed these very wise words from Paul:

ESV Galatians 6:1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
