Looks like Reid is caving under the pressure:

Reid’s proposal was meant to insulate Senate Democratic candidates from public anger over gas prices. Instead, it has created a divide with liberal colleagues and drawn fire from senior House Democrats.
[…]
The legislation, drafted by Reid and Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), would open nearly a billion new acres off the coast of Alaska to study for drilling. It would also dramatically accelerate oil leases in the western and central Gulf of Mexico.

But since Pelosi is more concerned with saving the planet than opening up the supply so that we won’t have to pay $12 a gallon in the future (and drop the price now when speculators realize we are serious about finding our own sources of oil):

But Pelosi has balked at scheduling any drilling legislation for a regular floor vote because that would give Republicans an opportunity to force vulnerable Democratic incumbents to vote on difficult amendments.

BTW, can anyone name one thing that Pelosi has done that would save the planet? How does forcing us to buy oil from other countries save the planet? Does she think that the demand is going to go away just because we don’t drill? We’ll still need gas, China will still need gas and so will other countries around the world. When do you think the other countries will start looking at as hoarders? We are sitting on this supply of oil and yet we don’t care if other countries “destroy” their shorelines so we can get it but we refuse to “destroy” our own. We don’t care what other countries do as long as we don’t do it here. Talk about arrogant!
