“The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. Now go…” Luke 10:2,3

Looking for work? God has posted a job that you qualify for if you have given yourself over to the leadership of Jesus. As He often did, Jesus spoke here in a metaphor. No doubt, he and his disciples just happened to be walking past farmers in a harvest field. He makes the observation that this time in history is likened to a harvest.

People are hungry for the message of hope that Jesus brings. But who will speak that message? There is a window of opportunity at harvest time when the fruit in the fields is ripe. If no one is there to pick it, it will fall to the ground and rot.

Be the answer to your own prayer for Kingdom workers in the field of those you love and care about: Go yourself. Draft yourself! Volunteer as a worker in the lives of people who desperately need the Good News of the Kingdom of God. You might not be able to reach the people you are praying for, but you can reach the people others are praying for! And God will see to it your loved ones are reached as you (to mix in another farmer metaphor) sow seeds of God’s love into the lives of others.

Father,

I hear your call for volunteer workers in the “fields”. You can count on me to make myself available to be an answer to somebody else’s prayers – to work, teach, touch, encourage, and come alongside anyone who needs hope today, offering them your great love out of my own personal experience as I have encountered and enjoyed your forgiveness and power and grace.

In Jesus’ Name Amen
