Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:

“Give thanks to the Lord,

    for his love endures forever.”

As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes.(2 Chronicles 20:21,22)

If you are facing a battle, your first response will not be to begin worshipping God. Rather, the knee-jerk reaction to an attack is anything but praise. However, it worked for the Israelites. Praise released angelic deliverance that got God’s people out of the mess they were in.

Father,

The enemy of my soul is hardpressed to do me in. I have no idea what to do, and I certainly have no strength in me to win. But I will praise my Great Deliverer. I will give you thanks in the middle of this intense stress. My gratitude radar will grow and grow. And my strength and joy will grow as I watch you do what I cannot do:  deliver me from danger, evil, distress, anger, depression, addiction, and hell itself. I celebrate your great love for me. Your love outlasts every circumstance I face! Your love sustains me through this battle waged against my soul. Your love for me will never run dry or fail me. Thank you, Lord! I lift my hands in praise and adoration for your great goodness, love, and glory.

Amen
