Ten members of the Christian medical team — six Americans, two Afghans, one German and a Briton — were gunned down in Afghanistan yesterday. The gruesome slaughter was carried out by Taliban militants who alleged that the volunteers were carrying Bibles and were trying to convert Muslims to Christianity. The Taliban gunmen released the Afghan driver, who recited verses from the Quran as he begged for his life. The team of doctors, nurses and logistics workers were attacked on their way to Kabul after their two-week trip offering medical services in remote villages.  Spokespersons for the International Assistance Mission, one of the longest serving non-governmental organizations operating in Afghanistan, does not proselytize or permit workers to carry Bibles.

“God, have mercy! Bring peace to Afghanistan. Bring comfort to the families and friends of these workers. Bring conviction, correction, and justice to these men who perpetrated this horrendous massacre. Give courage to others to step up and take their place. May the blood of these martyrs spark a release of new hope and true salvation to this broken nation. In Jesus, the only and final hope for all the Word!”
