The spotlot should be on Deanna Favre – that’s a good thing! Forget purple and gold, and green and gold. During the Vikings vs. Packers game last night the dominant color was pink. October is national breast cancer awareness month and the NFL did its part plastering ESPN’s Monday Night Football with pink-everything: goal post pads, player’s shoes, even sweat rags. Pink was everywhere. God bless them!

The drama of the game centered round Brett Favre, a 40 year old future hall of fame quarterback and former Green Bay Packer who has of late revived his career playing for the rival Minnesota Vikings. Favre had a great game and led the Vikings to victory. And with each touchdown cameras also caught Deanna Favre cheering on her guy. That was fitting: Deanna Favre is a breast cancer survivor. She’s written a book about her struggle called “Don’t Bet Against Me.” She’s also started the Hope Foundation to help the war against breast cancer.

The battle on the field is staged, not real. At the end of the day football and all sports are a game. Fighting cancer and any disease is no game and it is real. “Kudos” to the NFL and Deanna Favre for helping lead the charge against this tragic and painful epidemic.

Deanna Favre is also a woman of faith and prayer. In addition to calling on us to get active in the cause she also calls us to prayer. Let’s join now in a specific prayer of healing for those struggling with breast cancer and the families that are affected.

“God, cancer is not and never your will. You do not make our cells to rebel against our bodies. You have a blueprint for our lives and your intent is for our bodies to follow this blueprint. Cancer is a curse and a rebellion against this plan. In response, we join you God, and curse the cancer cells in the bodies of all those women who suffer breast cancer. Bring healing to their bodies. Bring everything back to order. Cause their immune systems to rise and defeat these tumors. Give medical workers wisdom and stamina to help this battle. Thank you for the knowledge you have revealed through science. Put medications to work to cooperate with your healing. For those doing research and looking for more clues to curing this blight – give them the secrets they need to know! God, stand over each person who endures this sickness and give hope and joy and physical and emotional strength – beyond what is natural! Give them ALL they need today and in Jesus’ name, give them healing and wholeness!”
