I woke up to a lot of hubbub about the inescapable – no way you can miss it – massively huge in size and message – Calvin Klein billboard displayed on Lafayette and Houston Streets in SoHo (NYC) today.
Unbuttoned, unzipped, it features a topless young woman, a bare-chested boy and another shirtless male. The models are positioned in what appears to be a threesome, and the imagery implies that a foursome is imminent.

People are saying that it’s borderline pornography, others say that at the very least it’s inappropriate. Some New Yorkers think that Calvin Klein has taken it too far. And perhaps they are right. Has Calvin crossed the line?
For me, the advertisement brought up other issues. Possible pornography aside, this ad not only says that our bodies have to be perfectly air-brushed, and that you’re old at 30, never mind 50, but now, in addition, I have to be in bed with at least two other people, preferably three, to feel sexy and enjoy life.
It took me a minute or two to find center and come back to being absolutely fine with my body, my age, and my monogamous lifestyle. And you, how does the advertisement ‘hit’ you?
