From the fine print:

” The new Lexus RX has unparalleled powers of observation.  Available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control detects when the car traveling in front gets too close and automatically slows you to maintain your following distance…..
When an accident cannot be avoided, the available Pre-Collision System activates to help reduce collision damage.  The available VDIM system can help sense and respond to skids before they even happen.  And as for you, the available Heads-up Display helps you keep your eyes focused on the road so that no detail will escape your notice.  A wide range of technology, all carefully designed to meet the needs of the driver…”

It sounds like Lexus is building the first motor vehicle to attain cessation of traffic Samsara:

I can’t help but make the comparison between these automated systems on the Lexus RX and the Buddhist idea of establishing “good habits” so that even when we (or driver of the car) aren’t 100% aware, we can still have some confidence that our subconscious habits (car technology) will minimize the damage and knock us back on course to full awareness…
…Where the comparison crashes and burns (bad analogy?) is that THERE IS STILL A HUMAN DRIVING THE CAR AND THEY BETTER THE F@#$ BE PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT IS GOING ON IN FRONT OF THEM.
Is there a Buddhist concept for a false sense of awareness?
