President Donald Trump has nominated Kimberly Greenwood, wife of country singer Lee Greenwood, to serve as U.S. ambassador to Barbados and several Eastern Caribbean nations.

The nomination was among a slate of appointments sent to the U.S. Senate on Monday and will require Senate confirmation. If confirmed, Greenwood would serve as ambassador to Barbados while also representing the United States in St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Greenwood responded to the nomination on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself with her husband and Trump.

“Mr. President, thank you for believing in me and entrusting me with this extraordinary opportunity to serve,” she wrote.

Her husband is best known for his patriotic hit “God Bless the USA,” which has been closely associated with Trump’s political events for years. The song has frequently been used as Trump’s walk-on music at rallies and other appearances. Trump and Lee Greenwood have also been involved in promoting the “God Bless the USA Bible.”

Lee Greenwood celebrated his wife’s nomination on social media and highlighted her longstanding professional relationship with Trump. According to the singer, Kimberly Greenwood worked with Trump for 18 years, during which he owned the Miss Universe Organization, and she directed state pageants.

Kimberly Greenwood is a former Miss Tennessee USA and previously worked as an executive director overseeing state pageants connected with the Miss Universe Organization. Her work included pageants in Tennessee, Mississippi and Georgia.

The ambassadorial nomination comes as the Trump administration fills several diplomatic posts. Greenwood was one of several ambassador nominees announced Monday, along with outgoing Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt of Texas, whom Trump nominated to serve as U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Other nominees were announced for diplomatic positions in Haiti, Somalia, Djibouti and Suriname.

Presidents have long made political appointments to ambassador positions of both parties. Former President Joe Biden, for example, selected Seattle business leader and Democratic donor Roger Nyhus for the same Barbados and Eastern Caribbean post during his administration.

For the Greenwood family, however, the latest nomination marks a new chapter in their long association with Trump.

Kimberly Greenwood will now await consideration by the Senate before she can formally take up the diplomatic post.
