Amidst revelations that Google agreed to censor certain content under the Biden administrations, it has been revealed that pro-life content fell under that agreement. The revelation that Google had given into pressure under the Biden administration was made during a Federal Judiciary meeting. “Senior Biden Administration officials, including White House officials, conducted repeated and sustained outreach to Alphabet [Google’s parent company] and pressed the company regarding certain user-generated content, the company revealed in a statement. It acknowledged that Biden administration officials, including Biden himself “created a political atmosphere that sought to influence the actions of platforms based on their concerns regarding misinformation. It is unacceptable and wrong when any government, including the Biden Administration, attempts to dictate how the company moderates content, and the company consistently fought against those efforts on First Amendment grounds.”

The company would, however, eventually give into the pressure, banning certain YouTube channels from its platform with the channel not having violated any of the platform’s policies. It also removed ads for certain platforms, such as pro-life organization Live Action, which had its ads for an abortion reversal pill removed. Live Action also had its account for Pinterest permanently banned for “misinformation.” A Google search had the pro-life movie “Unplanned” labeled as “propaganda.”

Many pro-life groups have come out to express the censorship they have experienced from online platforms. “While we’ve been fortunate to avoid censorship on platforms like YouTube and Google, TikTok has proven to be a battleground: banning our content 180 times in just 24 hours,” Students for Life of America spokesperson Jordan Butler told Catholic News Agency. Pritchard, the political communications director for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said she was not “surprised.” “We are not at all surprised by Google’s admissions of censorship. For years, tech giants have demonstrated a pattern of bias, actively undermining, suppressing, and censoring groups like Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America, who share the pro-life message in a highly effective way. The Biden administration, too, weaponized federal might to target pro-life Americans and even put peaceful activists in jail,” she added, possibly alluding to 23 peaceful pro-life activists that were jailed during the Biden administration. President would go on to pardon them.
