Extraterrestrials or aliens have absorbed the human imagination for decades. Two major political figures, however, have suggested a potentially spiritual side to the question of life beyond Earth. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene recently appeared on an episode of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher where she discussed that she believes aliens are fallen angels, oftentimes referred to as demons. Greene appeared on the episode with filmmaker Dan Farah, whose new documentary “The Age of Disclosure,” explores the idea that some US military officials believe demons may be beyond UFO sightings. When Maher asked Greene if she was of a similar opinion, she responded, “Absolutely. I’m a Bible-believing Christian. And I believe those could be fallen angels.” She doubled down, despite Maher’s skepticism. “That’s possible – I think that’s what they could be. That’s what makes sense in my worldview.”

Greene isn’t alone in her thinking. In an interview with journalist Miranda Devine, Vice President JD Vance stated he would like to access classified material to find out the truth about alien intelligence. He suggested a spiritual component to the mystery. “I really want to sort of dig into it. There’s certainly an interest there, there’s certainly an intrigue. But I haven’t yet had the time to really dig in. Things have been so busy,” he said. Vance pushed back at the idea of extraterrestrial life, acknowledging that a spiritual component fit his worldview. “I wouldn’t say that I do or don’t believe [in aliens]. I’m a big believer that there are things out there we can’t explain. If another person sees an alien, maybe I see an angel or a demon,” he said. “I’m a big believer that there are like spiritual forces working on the physical world that a lot of us don’t see and a lot of us don’t understand.” He admitted, however, that he was unsure. “But, you know, is it aliens or is it our guardian angel? Or is it aliens, or is it a not-so-guardian force that doesn’t care about us; or, in fact, actively wishes us harm? I don’t know the answer to that question.”

While it may seem like a far-fetched for the uninitiated, the idea of aliens possibly being demonic forces is a fairly popular belief amongst a certain sect of Christians. It has even spawned a number of popular podcasts such as “Blurry Creatures” and “Haunted Cosmos” that discuss the possibilities of angelic forces as demons, unexplained phenomena, and the possibilities of Bigfoot being a Nephilim, the mysterious beings mentioned in Genesis 6. The deceased Michael Heiser’s book, The Unseen Realm, takes a deep-dive into Biblical theology pertaining to angels, demons, and the unexplained.
