The family of TV reality show contestant Sam Poueu wants to thank America for praying for his recovery — after his four-story fall down a fire escape.

“He still has a long road ahead and is already a true testament to the power of prayer,” says the family. “Our faith remains that God will heal him completely according to His will. We are thankful for the miracles we have already witnessed in his recovery and are thankful for the dedicated medical personnel attending to him.”

Poueu was a ninth-season competitor on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser.” Police say he ended up in critical condition at a San Francisco hospital September 3 after falling about 40 feet down a fire escape at a friend’s birthday dinner, reports Elizabeth Kwiatkoswki on the website “TV Reality World.”

In a statement released to People magazine, Poueu’s family and fiancee Stephanie Anderson — to whom Poueu became engaged while competing on the weight-loss reality show — said that following the dinner, Poueu went to the rooftop of another friend’s apartment and accidentally locked himself out.

The TV celebrity gossip show TMZ reported that Poueu sustained a pelvic injury, punctured lung, broken leg, and torn ligaments.

Poueu “attempted to climb down the fire escape ladder to drop down into the fourth floor balcony and slipped,” according to his family. They thanked fans for their prayers and requested that they continue — as Poueu’s recovery will take time.

“Thank you again for all your prayers,” said the family’s statement. “Although he is in wonderful hands, we ask for your continued prayers and understanding as Sam and our families get through this difficult time. Praise God for our fighter Sam.”
