In what might be called an event that could only happen in California, a religious group called the Raelians is calling women to join them from noon until 3 p.m. at San Francisco’s Dolores Park without their shirts.

“What could be more fun than a topless afternoon in the park for a political cause?” enthuses columnist Dean Shaeffer in the alternative news site SFWeekly. “You can protest and feel sexy at the same time. We’re tempted to say it’s too good to be true, but it’s better than it seems.

The group and its events, writes Shaeffer, “are basically publicity stunts for the Raelians, a cult that believes alien scientists created humans. Their leader, Rael, is not just a prophet — he’s also a songwriter and race-car driver, the ‘fastest spiritual leader in the world!’

“We’re determined to be informed before we laugh at the Raelians on Sunday,” writes Shaeffer, “so we scoured the group’s website for the best nuggets of wisdom. Here are the five craziest things we found, with original spellings, grammar, and punctuation preserved.”
