A report released on Tuesday said that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to President Barack Obama’s formula for peace with Palestine based on the pre-1967 lines with land swaps if Palestine drops its bid for statehood in September.

It’s expected that it would be considered the starting point of the peace talks if Netanyahu did indeed accept the deal.

There are conditions, however. Palestine would need to withdrawal its bid for statehood next month and would have to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish State. 

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has said publicly he would not recognize Israel as a Jewish State.

Meanwhile, Abbas has been campaigning vehemently for enough votes before the 192-member UN General Assembly meets on whether to recognize Palestine as a state.

Netanyahu has been steadfast on his position regarding the pre-1967 borders, stating that it would put Israel at great risk as the pre-1967 line would be indefensible.

Beliefnet contacted the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. and was told by a spokesperson that they heard of the reports circulating in the media, but there was no official statement released by the Prime Minister and his office at this time.
