(RNS) The Dalai Lama will join the staff of the Vancouver Sun as guest editor when he is in town for the 2009 Vancouver Peace Summit.
Saturday’s (Sept. 26) edition of the Vancouver Sun will follow the theme “Educating the Heart,” including stories written by Vancouver Sun reporters and the Dalai Lama himself.
“The Dalai Lama holds a special place in the hearts of people all over the world, and especially here in Vancouver,” editor Patricia Graham wrote last March when the paper announced the Dalai Lama’s newest assignment.

Some of the stories will have an appropriate humanitarian angle.
Stories will focus on topics such as faith and prayer in the healing process, how animated movies such as Pixar’s WALL-E teach audiences to love each other, and whether or not the world would be a more peaceful place if women were in charge.
The Dalai Lama will be writing his own editorial for the newspaper that day. The special editorial piece will highlight the belief that the purpose of life is to be happy and will emphasis that love and compassion are the keys to happiness.
The special Dalai Lama edition will not just benefit readers; the newspaper will also donate 10 cents from every paper sold on newsstands that day to the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education, a Vancouver-based charitable organization focused on fostering personal and global peace.
The Dalai Lama will be in Vancouver Sept 26-29 for the Vancouver Peace Summit: Nobel Laureates in Dialogue, held at the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education. Other Nobel Laureates including Jody Williams, Mairead Maguire, Betty Williams and Murray Gell-Mann will join the Dalai Lama to talk about peace, education and women and peace-building.
