In this special short talk, Guy Finley talks about what it means to be truly receptive to the gifts that life wants to give us in each and every moment, even when it feels as though nothing is being offered.

TALK NOTES

There will be moments in our spiritual life in which it will feel as though we have nothing — in which there seems to be no promise. It is during these difficult times that we will have to make a choice. We can do as we have always done in these moments of feeling empty and search for an escape through some form of distraction. Or we can choose to become truly conscious of the feeling, not because we love to feel empty, but because the moment is full of the love we have for truth and what it reveals to us about ourselves.
That is what it means to love God. The love of God — the love of Truth — has nothing whatsoever to do with anything going on outside of us. The love of God has everything to do with what we give ourselves to in any given moment. We must choose what it is that we will attend to. We can continue to give ourselves over to a nature that doesn’t want to see anything about itself. Or we can turn towards that which is being revealed to us by the light, knowing that anything we discover about ourselves is for the good of us.
