Dove Award-winning artist Ellie Holcomb recently released her newest project, “All of My Days,” which sets the book of Psalms to music. The singer-songwriter, who is the daughter of celebrated music producer Brown Bannister and wife of singer Drew Holcomb, has always celebrated scripture set to music, often as part of sharing with her listeners on “Memory Mondays” where she sings Scripture to songs every week.

“God’s word has been a balm, and a shelter in the storm, an anchor that is grounded me when shame storms come in,” Holcomb explains. “I will never be able to deny the light that it is shown for me in some of the darkest nights of my soul.” Although she can remember “1,000 songs easily,” it is more difficult to remember scripture sometimes, so setting it to music can “help my forgetful, weary heart.”

For “All of My Days,” Holcomb celebrates the psalms of David, with seven tracks set to music, including “All of My Days – Psalm 231,” “Where Can I Go – Psalm 139,” “I Lift My Eyes – Psalm 121,” “Wait For You – Psalm 130,” “Don’t Forget His Love – Psalm 103,” “My Heart Is Steadfast – Psalm 108.”

“I’ve always wanted to make a Psalms project,” she adds. “Singing Scripture has been equivalent to a physical act of burying seeds of hope and truth and light deep in my heart. The joy and comfort that come when those little melodies surface, especially during the dark or hard moments in my story, scripture songs have been an encouragement for me over the years.”

The EP concludes with a new version of the Amy Grant classic, “Thy Word – Psalm 119,” which she shared through a post on social media recently.

“What I love about this verse is that it’s such a simple metaphor. God’s word is a lamp. When we are stumbling, struggling, lost, confused, lonely, exhausted, and at the end of rope in a dark night of the soul, there is a lantern we can hold. It may not reveal the whole grand journey ahead of us, but it will give us light for the next right thing.”

For eight years, Holcomb recorded and toured full-time with her husband’s band, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, before stepping off the road when her first child was born. The duo released a love-themed EP for Valentine’s Day titled “Brick By Brick,” followed by a “Feels Like Home” tour through the month of February.

Holcomb’s solo debut, “As Sure as The Sun” (2014), landed her a Top 10 hit and a GMA Dove Award for “New Artist of the Year.” Her critically acclaimed sophomore LP, “Red Sea Road,” followed in 2017. In 2021, she released her third full-length solo project, “Canyon,” to much acclaim, earning her a second Top 10 radio single with the song, “I Will Carry You.”

At the most recent GMA Dove Awards, Holcomb was honored for Children’s Recorded Song of the Year for “Sounding Joy” from her Christmas project, “Sing: Christmas Songs.” Holcomb has released the children’s books “Who Sang the First Song,” “Don’t Forget to Remember” and “Sounding Joy,” also the name of her Christmas EP and award-winning song.

“I was reading this quote about Christmas from Ann Voskamp and it says, ‘The gift of Christmas is that we who were barren are gifted a child who lets us laugh with relief for all of eternity.’ And that’s what we celebrate (at the Dove Awards). The end of the story is good, it’s love, and I’m so grateful for that.”

Coinciding with the new release, an expanded version of Holcomb’s “Fighting Words” devotional released with 10 additional devotionals and new artwork. Seven of the new devotionals are accompanied by songs on the new music project.

“It is so humbling to hear how many have resonated with ‘Fighting Words’,” she said. “I’m so delighted that we’re now sending out this extended version that includes so many of my ‘lifer’ verses. The book now feels like a stack of paper Ebenezers, little reminders of how God has deeply met and encouraged me through the Scriptures.”

As someone who has often found solace in the Scripture during nights of worry and anxiety, Holcomb believes if she can help others, she’s grateful for that opportunity; “The Word helps me remember what’s true, and if it helps me remember, maybe it’ll help some other people remember,” she says.

Holcomb’s “All of My Days” EP is currently streaming on music platforms. Her “Fighting Words” expanded devotional is available through her website and retail outlets.
