When God’s mighty Spirit comes upon us we will be awakened in our love for God. In many ways, then, the ancient Shema of Israel, found in Deut 6:4-5, points us toward Pentecost. The summons God gave Israel was to love God with every facet of our being, or what a friend of mine called “every globule.” We are to love God with:
Our heart: affections, center of our being
Our soul: life and spirituality
Our mind: thoughts
Our strength: our resources. One could say here “With Everything!”
Loving God is a great idea, until you try doing it all day long in every situation you find yourself. With everything you’ve got and are. All day long.
