I sent the ms for The Real Mary: Why Evangelical Christians Can Embrace the Mother of Jesus to the publisher (Paraclete) Friday, and now I await word from my fantastic editor, Lil Copan. The good news is that the book will be out in time for The Nativity movie (December 1), which means those who come away from that movie wondering what the “real” Mary was like can have something to read about her.
Here’s a basic contention: The real Mary’s story has not been told. Instead, she has been swallowed up into theological debates, captured by controversies, and now largely ignored by Protestants. I hope to awaken our interest in the real Mary, what she was like in the 1st Century. My book will journey with Mary as her faith grows.
