Here’s the jazz connection in all of this.

How do we find unity in the body of Christ?  Some say, city-wide prayer summits and worship services.  Other churches have formal partnerships with other fellowships and swap pastors occasionally.  I have nothing against these approaches and have (and will) participated in them.  I’d like to add another:  Let’s find a song we can all play and improvise upon.

For Ensemble Community to exist in the church we need to allow Presbyterians to be Presbyterian and Baptists to be Baptist.  While we will not agree on baptism we can still play in concert with and for each other.  Someone needs to call out a song.

I think that the care for orphans of our country may be one of those songs that all churches can play.  If it is, then we will see a unity in the body of Christ unlike anything we have ever experienced.  Unity without uniformity.

The cry of the orphan may be the opening notes to a groove that will bring us together in concert with and for each other.
