A Georgia woman is praising God after surviving a car fire on her way to work. Candy Smith, a resident of Lincolnton, GA, was on her way to work on Interstate 20 in a 2004 Toyota Camry when the undercarriage caught fire. Smith didn’t initially realize her own peril. “I felt no heat, no warmth. I didn’t even have my air on. I felt nothing until I stopped and realized I was on fire,” she told WRDW News. The news channel shared a video of Smith driving her car along the highway with flames engulfing it from underneath.

Thankfully, after realizing what was happening beneath her car, Smith pulled over and quickly got out. “I turned it off, grabbed my purse, jumped out of the car, barefooted everything. I look, and my hood is melting, and I see flames,” she said. Images show the car completely engulfed in flames, buckling and melting from the heat. Smith, however, stated she had a lot of peace when her “angel,” a truck driver by the name of Kalique from South Carolina, pulled over to help her. An image showed Kalique running toward Smith’s car with a fire extinguisher. Smith shared an image of herself and Kalique smiling together after the incident. Smith said she was very thankful for Kalique being there.

The fire was especially frightening for Smith, who has developed a special fear of them after her youngest son, Jed, died during a house fire in 2020. “I hate fires,” she said during her interview. Smith’s family experienced another tragedy when another son, Walker, died while waiting on a lung transplant after complications from COVID-19 last year. However, she remained positive, noting how many people had prayed for them and reached out to them during her son’s illness. She said Kalique stopping to help was another reminder that God was looking out for her and protecting her. Even being face to face with her worst fear didn’t appear to phase her as she continued to praise God and look at things positively. “It could have been a lot worse,” she said. “Again, God’s faithfulness, God’s timing… he cleared the road.” She thanked the Lord, saying, “Thank You for Your mercy, thank You for Your grace, and for loving me.”

The source of the fire has not been determined or revealed as of this writing. WRDW revealed that Smith has already bought a new Camry to replace the one that was burned in the fire.
