Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray is stepping up in a big way by donating $15,000 to William Cho, the 6-year-old boy who lost his family in the Texas mass shooting earlier this month. Cho visited the Allen outlet mall with his family when a gunman started shooting, killing Cho’s mother, father, and brother.

Cho suffered injuries in the horrific shooting but is recovering well after some time in the ICU. Friends of the Cho family set up a GoFundMe page to provide the 6-year-old with enough money to help him in the wake of the tragedy once he heals, and Murray raced to help the cause. The 25-year-old quarterback, who attended high school in the area, gave $15,000.

He tweeted that he was willing and ready to help more victims. So far, the GoFundMe page, which initially had a goal of $50,000, has reached over $1.7 million. The page’s organizers wrote, “We are deeply grateful and sincerely appreciate this outpouring of love and prayers from all around the country. Both Kyu and Cindy’s family will use these funds to help William continue the legacy of his parents.”

Murray, who is from Allen, Texas, where the shooting occurred, also donated $10,000 to a general fund for victims of the shooting and shared the links with his 372,000 followers on Twitter.

Murray’s donation is the largest to the GoFundMe page that was set up for William. The NFL quarterback expressed anger immediately following the shooting, saying, “This is sickening. Prayers to the mass shooting victims in Allen, Texas. If there is any way I can help those affected by this tragedy, please let me know. When is this [expletive] gonna stop?”

Kyu Song Cho, Cindy Cho and their 3-year-old son were among the eight people killed in the shooting at the mall on Saturday. Seven others, including the Chos’ 6-year-old boy, were injured.

Law enforcement officials said the gunman had eight guns with him at the time of the shooting, all purchased legally. Police are still investigating the gunman’s motive. The 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia gunman left behind online posts in which he appears to have espoused support for Nazism and obsessed over guns and prior mass shootings.

Investigators said they are aware that he had “neo-Nazi ideation.” However, they also said the gunman targeted the location rather than specific groups of people at the mall, claiming he was shooting indiscriminately.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, this shooting marked at least the 202nd massing shooting in the U.S. at that point in the year. The nonprofit defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot, excluding the shooter. The number for 2023 has since risen to at least 225, according to the archive.

Mass shootings are an unfortunate tragedy that keeps happening in our country. Families are torn apart, and children are left without their parents. Please keep William Cho, his family and the rest of the victims’ families in your prayers.
