What was meant to be a relaxing vacation turned into a nightmare when Brian Tarrence, 51, mysteriously vanished while on a romantic getaway with his wife in Turks and Caicos.
Brian, who recently moved from Monroe, New York, to Manhattan, had arrived with his wife on June 22, planning a peaceful week of sunshine, boat rides, and dinners together. But in the early hours of June 25, something changed. Around 3:30 a.m., security footage captured Brian leaving their Airbnb in Grace Bay, wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers, and walking toward the tourist-heavy downtown area. Since then, there has been no sign of him.
“He basically disappears,” said private investigator Carl DeFazio, who was hired by the family to help find Brian. DeFazio, a former NYPD officer and Marine, shared that everything seemed normal leading up to Brian’s disappearance. The couple had enjoyed dinner and a boat trip earlier that day, like any other vacationing family.
“Everything prior to the point where he walked out of that house, he seems fine,” DeFazio explained. “But it’s bizarre in itself. His wife was sleeping, and he just walked out into town in the middle of the night.”
Brian took his cellphone and wallet with him when he left, and according to DeFazio, the area he walked into is considered “very safe. ” Still, no one has heard from him, and the reason he left remains a mystery.
Local authorities in the British Overseas Territory have been using drones to scan the area, reviewing security footage, and working with local businesses to help trace Brian’s steps that night. Flyers with Brian’s face have been posted all over the island, and many locals and tourists have offered their help in the search.
DeFazio expressed gratitude for the community’s support, saying, “I’m very proud of the response from the local businesses and people on vacation.”
While there is currently no evidence of foul play, the investigator says they are keeping all possibilities open. “So far, we haven’t been successful in anything, but we’re not giving up hope,” DeFazio shared. “What I tell the family … in cases like this: Stay positive until you have a reason not to be.”
Brian’s wife has remained on the island to assist with the search, continuing to hope and pray for her husband’s safe return.
In times like these, it is a reminder for us as believers to lift families like the Tarrences in prayer. We can pray for Brian’s safety, for wisdom and strength for his wife, and for the search teams working tirelessly to find him.
Lord, we ask You to guide the search for Brian. Bring light to the darkness and hope to his family. Protect him wherever he may be and strengthen his wife as she waits for answers. We trust in Your goodness and Your power to bring him home. Amen.
