Colombian singer-songwriter Yeison Jiménez died in a tragic plane crash over the weekend, just hours before he was scheduled to perform in Medellín. He was 34. Authorities said the small aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff January 10th “in the sector between Paipa and Duitama,” according to Colombia’s Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics. All six people on board were killed, including Jiménez and five members of his team.

News of his death spread quickly across Colombia, where Jiménez had become a well-loved voice in regional music. His inspiring story of hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance made him relatable to thousands. His official Instagram account confirmed his passing, writing that his team shared the news “with heavy hearts and a pain impossible to describe.”

The translated statement continued, “Today we say goodbye not only to an artist; we say goodbye to a son, a brother, a friend, a human being full of dreams and courage, who transformed his story into hope for thousands of people. Yeison embodied perseverance, discipline, and love for his community. His voice and his example were born from hard work, and that is why they will forever mark the lives of those who followed and loved him.”

His team thanked fans, friends, and fellow artists for their expressions of love, noting that thousands have been offering prayers for his family. “To all the fans, colleagues, media outlets, and everyone who has supported Yeison throughout his career and during these difficult times: thank you for every message, every prayer, and all the love you are sending,” the statement said.

The post also asked for privacy for the grieving families and concluded with a hopeful message about his lasting influence: “Yeison may be gone physically, but his legacy lives on… His light will continue to shine every time someone sings one of his songs and remembers that it is possible to overcome adversity.”

Jiménez had recently spoken about repeated dreams of dying in a plane crash, sharing in an interview, “I dreamt three times that we were going to have a plane crash and that I had to tell the pilot to turn around.” In another dream, he said, “I … dreamt that we had died and that we were on the news,” adding, “God gave me three signs, and I didn’t understand them, I didn’t get them.”

For many fans, those remarks have added another layer of sorrow — and reflection. While the singer did not speak often about his personal faith, his story has prompted many online to ask for prayer for his loved ones and for the families of all who were killed.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash. The aircraft was believed to be owned by Jiménez’s firm, YJ Company SAS.

As friends, family, and fans mourn, many are choosing to remember not only the tragedy of his death, but the testimony of a life marked by resilience, generosity, and relentless pursuit of a dream — reminders that resonate deeply in times of grief.

Lord, we lift up the families and loved ones of Yeison Jiménez and all who were lost in this tragedy. Bring comfort to the grieving, peace to the weary, and hope to those walking through sorrow. May Your presence be near to the brokenhearted. Amen.
