The Putman family, known for their TLC reality series Meet the Putmans, is leaning on faith and prayer after a devastating car crash claimed the lives of three beloved family members and left several others hospitalized.
In a statement shared to social media on September 27, the family confirmed that Bill “Papa” Putman, Barb “Neenee” Putman, and their daughter-in-law Megan had all been killed in a car crash in Michigan.
“They have gone home to be with the Lord,” the family wrote, signing the note simply, “The Putmans.”
The family also requested prayer for five other relatives who were injured in the accident: “Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah and Gia.” Their heartfelt request read, “We ask for your continued prayers … as they recover, and for our whole family as we walk through this deep loss.”
Just one day later, on September 28, the family shared more details about the conditions of Noah and Gia. “Noah is still sedated but responding to us with movement,” they wrote, adding hopeful news about Gia, who underwent a craniotomy the night of the accident. “Her brain pressure has gone down significantly,” they said, thanking God for the encouraging update.
In their message, the family emphasized that, “Even in this time of heartbreak, [we] rest in knowing that God is in control.” They went on to share their confidence that their loved ones are now in heaven: “We know Papa, Neenee and Aunt Megan are not gone forever. They are alive and whole in Heaven, standing before Jesus, hearing the words we all long to hear,” the statement read, quoting Matthew 25:23.
On Instagram, the family added further words of encouragement as they continue to walk through grief. “Through it all, we continue to hold tightly to our faith, knowing that God has a plan and a purpose for everything. Even in the hardest moments, He is present, working in ways we may not yet understand,” they shared.
They also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love from friends and strangers alike: “Thank you all for the continued prayers, love, and support. We feel your strength and faith surrounding us. Please keep lifting Noah and Gia up as they heal.”
The Putmans first appeared on TLC in 2017 for a six-episode season of Meet the Putmans. The show introduced viewers to Bill and Barb, their four adult children, their spouses, and a growing number of grandchildren—all living together under one roof. At the time, the family’s home was a six-bedroom, two-bathroom house packed with multiple generations.
Later, their story continued on YouTube with Growing Up Putman. Their channel described the family’s unique lifestyle: “Bill and Barb Putman believe a strong family bond can occur only if everyone stays together — literally. The Putmans head a household where three generations live in the same 35,000 square foot house.”
Before the tragedy, the family’s Instagram bio noted they had grown to 10 adults and 20 children under one roof.
As they grieve, the Putmans are choosing to see beyond the pain of this moment to the hope of eternity. With their faith as an anchor, they continue to lean on God and the prayers of His people, trusting Him to heal those injured and carry them through unimaginable loss.
The family is also asking for continued prayers for five other members of the family who remain in the hospital, as they face a long road to recovery.
