Actor Josh Duhamel is encouraging Americans to make their voices heard in the upcoming midterm elections, calling voting a “sacred duty” and urging Minnesota residents to help save what he describes as “God’s country.”

The “Ransom Canyon” star shared a video on Instagram reminding his followers of the importance of participating in the November 3 elections. While he stopped short of endorsing any political candidates, his passionate message quickly sparked debate among supporters on both sides of the political aisle.

“I just wanted to take a second to remind you that the midterms are coming up,” Duhamel said. “This is such an important, such an important time. We have to get out there. We have to vote. Every single person.”

The North Dakota native, who also owns a cabin in Minnesota, expressed his deep affection for the neighboring state.

“Minnesota is my second favorite state in the whole country, right behind North Dakota, but I absolutely love it there,” he said. “It is God’s country. It is worth saving. It is absolutely worth saving.”

Duhamel emphasized that his message wasn’t about telling people which candidates to support. Instead, he framed voting as both a responsibility and a privilege that Americans shouldn’t take for granted.

“I would never tell you who to vote for,” he said, describing participation in elections as a citizen’s “sacred duty.”

“And it is a blessing that we get to get out there and pick who makes decisions for us,” he added.

The actor concluded his message by encouraging everyone to participate, calling for “100 percent turnout” before offering an enthusiastic cheer for the Minnesota Vikings.

In the video’s caption, Duhamel encouraged followers to bring others to the polls on November 3 and share his message widely.

Despite his refusal to endorse a candidate, some social media users interpreted his comments about Minnesota being “worth saving” as a political statement.

“Worth saving means vote red. Good man @joshduhamel,” one commenter wrote. Another encouraged voters to support Republican candidates across the ballot.

Others saw the message differently, with one commenter writing, “Vote blue save us all!!!!”

Beyond his political message, Duhamel has frequently spoken about his love for the Midwest and the importance of family, simplicity and spending time outdoors.

The actor and his family relocated from California to Fargo, North Dakota, and he listed his Los Angeles home for sale earlier this year. He also maintains a secluded Minnesota cabin that took him approximately 15 years to build.

In a September 2025 interview with People, Duhamel described the peace he experiences when escaping the distractions of modern life.

“It’s one of those places that I go to and I just, my blood pressure drops. I feel at peace,” he said.

The cabin has become a special retreat for Duhamel, his wife, Audra Mari, their young son, Shepherd, and his older son, Axl, whom he shares with former wife Fergie.

Speaking with Parade in April 2025, Duhamel explained that the property represents something much greater than a vacation home. He hopes to pass it down to his children and future generations.

“It’s not just about having all the amenities and all the luxuries that we become so used to,” he said. “It’s really about family. It’s about legacy.”

For Duhamel, that appreciation for family, community and the country he calls home appears to extend to the ballot box, where he believes every American has both an opportunity and a responsibility to make a difference.
