ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky is mourning a heartbreaking family tragedy after his brother-in-law, Federico “Fed” Lascano, died suddenly at age 43, leaving behind his wife and three sons.

Orlovsky shared the devastating news Thursday, October 15, revealing that Lascano, the husband of his sister Christine, had passed away unexpectedly over the weekend.

“This weekend, our family experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” Orlovsky wrote on X. “My brother-in-law, Fed, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind my sister and their three amazing boys.”

Lascano and Christine had been together since college and were raising three sons: Brayden, 18, Cameron, 16, and Colton, 11.

“There are no words to describe the heartbreak of losing a husband, a partner, and a father so suddenly,” Orlovsky continued.

The former NFL quarterback explained that his sister is now facing the challenges of raising their children alone while dealing with the emotional and financial impact of losing her husband.

“In the midst of trying to process this devastating loss, my sister is now facing the overwhelming reality of navigating life as a solo parent and a single-income household, all while helping her boys cope with the loss of their dad,” he wrote.

Orlovsky also shared a GoFundMe campaign established to support Christine and her children. According to the fundraiser, Lascano was the family’s primary financial provider.

Donations will help cover household bills, groceries and other everyday expenses while the family grieves. Remaining funds will go toward the boys’ education and future needs.

“No family should have to face this kind of heartbreak, and no one should have to worry about how they will manage financially while trying to put the pieces of their lives back together,” Orlovsky wrote.

The fundraiser has received an outpouring of support, including contributions reportedly made by prominent sports figures such as Andrew Whitworth, Diana Taurasi, Jason McCourty and Brian Flores.

Orlovsky, who played quarterback in the NFL before joining ESPN in 2018, has long been open about his Christian faith.

In January 2023, he made headlines when he prayed live on ESPN’s “NFL Live” for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin after Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a game.

Now, Orlovsky and his family are receiving prayers and messages of support of their own. Fellow ESPN analyst Field Yates was among those offering condolences, writing, “So incredibly sad to read this news. Love you bud and praying for your family.”

The cause of Lascano’s death has not been publicly disclosed.

As the family begins adjusting to life without him, Orlovsky expressed gratitude for those reaching out and helping his sister and nephews during their time of need.

“Our family is heartbroken, but we are so grateful for the love and support surrounding them during this unimaginable time,” he wrote.
