Netflix is taking a closer look at the controversial death of pastor’s wife Mica Miller, whose 2024 passing drew national attention and eventually led to federal charges against her estranged husband, former South Carolina pastor John-Paul Miller.

The three-part docuseries, “Death of the Pastor’s Wife,” premieres August 26 and will feature never-before-seen footage along with accounts from Mica’s friends and family, including some who are speaking publicly about the case for the first time.

Directors and executive producers Julia Willoughby Nason and Mike Gasparro said Mica’s apparent efforts to make herself heard before her death became central to the project.

“What stayed with us about Mica’s story was how hard she seemed to be fighting to be heard,” they said in a statement. “We made this series to ask difficult questions, listen closely to Mica’s own voice, and make sure that what she was trying to say is not forgotten.”

Mica died on April 27, 2024, at age 30. Her death was ruled a suicide by authorities, but the circumstances surrounding her relationship with her estranged husband continued to receive intense scrutiny.

John-Paul Miller, 46, formerly led Solid Rock at Market Common in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted him on charges related to allegedly cyberstalking Mica for nearly two years before her death and making false statements to federal investigators. He has pleaded not guilty.

According to the federal indictment, the alleged cyberstalking began around November 2022 and continued until Mica’s death. Prosecutors accuse Miller of using or threatening to use intimate photographs and videos to harass her, posting a nude image of her online without her consent and placing or causing tracking devices to be placed on vehicles she used.

Authorities also allege that he interfered with Mica’s finances, banking and daily activities. In one allegation, prosecutors say Miller contacted Mica at least 50 times more often than she contacted him, despite allegedly telling investigators otherwise. The indictment further claims he falsely denied being instructed by police to stop contacting her.

The allegations remain unproven, and Miller is entitled to the presumption of innocence as the federal case moves forward.

For those behind the Netflix series, however, the project is intended to focus not only on the investigation but also on the woman at its center.

Executive producer Alana Goldstein said time spent with Mica’s family and friends helped filmmakers better understand her personality, struggles and faith.

“Our goal at Crazy Legs is to tell a deeply personal portrait of Mica — honoring her voice, uncovering the realities of emotional abuse and coercive control, and remembering her for the light she shared with the world through her faith,” Goldstein said.

That faith is likely to resonate particularly strongly with Christian audiences following the case. Mica’s story unfolded within the world of church leadership, but those involved in the docuseries say they want viewers to see more than the headlines surrounding her death.

With federal charges now pending against her estranged husband, “Death of the Pastor’s Wife” will bring Mica’s story before a potentially massive new audience — while allowing those closest to her to tell viewers who she was beyond the tragedy that made her name nationally known.
