Mike Posner, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter best known for the hits “Cooler Than Me” and “I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” is opening up about the life-changing faith journey that led him to give his life to Jesus Christ and be baptized.

In a heartfelt Instagram post accompanied by a video of his baptism at sunset, the 38-year-old artist revealed that he made the decision to follow Christ one year ago, after what he described as a series of remarkable experiences that pointed him toward God.

“A year ago, I got down on my knees and gave my life to Christ,” Posner wrote to his 1.4 million followers.

He said his journey began after what he called several “Christ-based synchronistic events.” Among them were conversations with Christian friends who shared deeply personal details they couldn’t have known about, as well as a powerful moment during a small church service when he felt what seemed like electricity move through his body, leaving him with “a deep feeling of Oneness.”

Rather than focusing on whether those experiences could be explained naturally, Posner said what mattered most was how they transformed his life.

“I interpreted these signs as signals for me to take a step towards Christ,” he wrote. “I did so.”

Following that decision, Posner immersed himself in the New Testament and the writings of influential Christian thinkers, including C.S. Lewis and Mother Teresa. While he admitted he initially wrestled with some of the teachings he encountered, his understanding of Christianity gradually centered on becoming more like Jesus.

“For ME; To be a Christian means to aspire with all your mind, body, and soul to live as Christ did,” he wrote. “To forgive all other people… with an impossible level of compassion, grace, and most of all LOVE.”

He said following Christ means loving God by loving people, extending grace even when it’s difficult, and relying on God’s strength to pursue a standard of goodness that can’t be achieved alone.

“It means listening to the little voice inside me (that I believe comes from God) that tells me to do the right thing, even when I don’t feel like it,” he added.

Several weeks ago, Posner publicly marked that commitment through baptism, sharing a video of the moment as the final slide in his Instagram post.

“Christ has not made my life or my heart smaller, but much, much bigger,” he wrote. “I’m working on developing more and more of a personal relationship with God.”

The singer acknowledged that he isn’t trying to tell others what to believe, but said keeping his faith private no longer felt authentic.

“To not share this would feel inauthentic and like I was hiding a part of myself from my audience,” he wrote. “I am not hiding this part of my life. But I am proud of this part of my life.”

Posner’s spiritual transformation follows years of personal searching. In 2019, he walked across America, surviving a rattlesnake bite during the journey before later climbing Mount Everest—experiences he has said reshaped his priorities and deepened his search for purpose.

In recent years, he has also spoken openly about leaving behind the lifestyle that inspired “I Took a Pill in Ibiza.” On the song’s 10th anniversary, he said none of its lyrics reflected his life anymore, describing himself as “a completely new man” who no longer sought fulfillment through drugs, fame or unhealthy relationships.

Earlier this year, Posner even debuted updated lyrics to the song, replacing references to drug use with lines about being “10 years sober,” starting a family and deciding to “give my life up to God”—a public reflection of the faith he now says has transformed his heart.
