Television’s biggest night is taking shape after the Television Academy unveiled the nominees for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, with several fan-favorite dramas, comedies and limited series earning recognition across the industry’s top categories.
Leading the pack is HBO’s medical drama “The Pitt,” which scored an impressive 25 nominations, making it this year’s most-nominated series. Close behind is the acclaimed comedy “Hacks,” which earned 24 nominations and set a new Emmy record for the most nominations ever received by a comedy series in a single year. Among newcomers, Apple TV+’s “Widow’s Bay” made a major splash with 19 nominations, while “Pluribus” followed closely with 18.
This year’s nominations also feature familiar faces alongside rising stars, including Zendaya, Noah Wyle, Jean Smart, Carrie Coon, Sterling K. Brown, Matthew Rhys and Harrison Ford. The list reflects another strong year for streaming platforms, with HBO Max leading all networks and streamers with 122 total nominations.
“The nominees’ creativity and talent remind us why television remains one of our most powerful art forms,” Television Academy chair Cris Abrego said during Wednesday’s announcement. “Every nomination today is a result of countless people coming together to create work that moves us, entertains us and, above all, inspires us.”
The 2026 Emmy Awards will air live Sept. 14 on NBC and Peacock, with longtime Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay serving as host.
