Oscar nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were unveiled Thursday morning, officially kicking the 2026 awards race into high gear. Actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman announced nominees across all 24 categories from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles, including the ceremony’s newest competitive addition: Best Casting.
This year’s nominations confirmed a season dominated by bold auteur filmmaking. Ryan Coogler’s Jim Crow-era vampire epic Sinners led all films with a record-breaking 16 nominations, the most in Oscar history. Paul Thomas Anderson’s political saga One Battle After Another followed with 13 nominations, underscoring the Academy’s appetite for ambitious, socially charged storytelling.
Meanwhile, “Wicked: For Good” and its leading ladies may be coming to the end of the yellow-brick road. The sequel to Jon M. Chu’s musical — which earned 10 nominations last year, including Best Picture — was completely shut out of this year’s race. Stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were notably snubbed in the lead and supporting actress categories.
The 2026 Oscars will once again be hosted by Conan O’Brien on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, with streaming on Hulu.
