San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is once again using his platform to share his faith—this time with his feet. During a recent game against the Carolina Panthers, Purdy took part in the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” initiative by wearing custom-designed cleats promoting Samaritan’s Purse, the Christian humanitarian organization led by Rev. Franklin Graham.

Graham, who serves as president and CEO of both Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, took to Facebook to celebrate Purdy’s choice. “San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has chosen to highlight the work of Samaritan’s Purse in the 2025 #MyCauseMyCleats initiative,” Graham wrote. Sharing a photo of the custom shoes, he added, “Watch for these cleats tonight.”

The cleats featured the Samaritan’s Purse logo and website, drawing attention to the organization’s mission of providing relief and spiritual hope to people in crisis worldwide. Graham also expressed his support for the quarterback, saying he hoped Purdy “does well in the game tonight.” The 49ers went on to defeat the Panthers 20-9.

The NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” program enables players, coaches, and staff to personalize their footwear to support causes and nonprofits that are close to their hearts. Fans can also donate directly to the highlighted charities through the league’s website. For Purdy, choosing Samaritan’s Purse was a natural fit—one that aligns with the faith he openly lives out on and off the field.

The 24-year-old quarterback, who describes himself on Instagram as a “Follower of Jesus,” has never been shy about discussing his faith. Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, Purdy told Sports Spectrum that he begins each day by reading Psalm 23, which reminds him that “The Lord is my shepherd. I have what I need.” When asked if he prays before games, Purdy explained that he does—but not for victory. “It’s more just to have that peace, that steadfastness in all the chaos,” he said. “It’s sinking back into, ‘Holy Spirit, take over and lead me here in this moment.'”

Purdy has shared that his Christian faith gives him confidence and freedom on the field. “Because I’m rooted in Him, I’m able to just play and not be afraid to fail,” he said. “God’s going to take care of wherever I’m at in my life, whether it’s football or not.”

He has also spoken about how his faith helps him maintain perspective in a world that celebrates fame and success. Quoting Mark 8:34—”If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me”—Purdy said he strives to live that message daily. “The minute you have fame, and if you’re trying to chase status and money and all this kind of stuff, you’ll lose your life rather than denying yourself, picking up your cross, keeping my eyes on Jesus,” he said.
