Justin Bieber is no stranger to sharing his faith, and his latest comments about marriage and morality are once again sparking discussion across the internet.
During a recent Twitch livestream with friends, the Grammy-winning singer opened up about what he believes counts as cheating in marriage. “If you even think of a woman with lust, it’s the same thing as actually doing it — committing adultery, or whatever,” the 31-year-old said. “It’s like the same thing. So it’s like, if it even crosses your mind for one second…”
Bieber went on to say that his beliefs come from a deeper understanding of Jesus’ teachings. “If you treat a man with anger or something, it’s the same as killing a man,” he added — echoing the words of Matthew 5:28, where Jesus teaches that lust in the heart is the same as committing adultery.
While Bieber’s comments reflect a biblical view of sin and purity, not everyone agreed with him online. “This is so false for anything in life. You can’t control your thoughts,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “If you act on them, yes, that’s wrong, but a thought doesn’t mean anything.” Another user commented, “You don’t have to act on it, but an innocent quick lust-thought is fine. Stop torturing yourself JB.” Others were more skeptical, suggesting Bieber was projecting his own struggles. “You know he saying it cause he does it,” one person wrote.
Despite the criticism, many Christians praised Bieber for publicly acknowledging the high standard of faithfulness that Scripture calls believers to — not just in action, but in thought and heart.
The pop star and his wife, model Hailey Bieber, have faced constant rumors about their marriage since tying the knot in 2018. Hailey, 28, has subtly brushed off speculation in her TikToks, while Justin has expressed his struggles — and his devotion — through his music.
On his latest album Swag, released in July, the singer opens up about their relationship in the emotional track “Walking Away.” He sings, “Girl, we better stop before we say some s–t / We’ve been testing our patience / I think we better off if we just take a break.” But later in the song, he reassures fans of his commitment: “Baby, I ain’t walking away / You were my diamond / Gave you a ring / I made you a promise.”
The couple, who welcomed their first child, Jack Blue, in August 2024, appear to be weathering the storms together. A source told People last year, “They laugh at the constant divorce rumors. It’s annoying but just noise.”
For Bieber, who has been open about his Christian faith and struggles with temptation, his words may reflect a desire to keep his heart and mind pure — both before God and his wife. Whether or not everyone agrees with him, Justin’s conviction shows that his faith continues to guide how he sees love, marriage, and morality in a world that often blurs the lines.
