Conservatives have continued their pushback against the proposed Super Bowl Halftime show headlined by Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny has earned the ire of many conservatives for his anti-ICE rhetoric, gender bending, and explicit lyrics. Many have criticized the lack of “family friendly” Super Bowl Halftime shows. Bad Bunny, however, is notably one of the most popular singers out there, earning more than 80 million streams on Spotify a month. Bad Bunny has informed critics that they have 4 months to learn Spanish in time for his upcoming performance, as many of his songs are performed in Spanish.
One petition has already taken off, with conservatives proposing having country singer George Strait perform at the Halftime show over Bad Bunny. Known as the “King of Country,” Strait is a favorite amongst conservatives. The petition has already received over 20,000 signatures. The petition states that Strait as a performer would return the Halftime show more to its American roots. “The Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most watched music performances worldwide, celebrating not just the sport but the cultural tapestry of America,” the petition affirms. “In recent years, this performance has leaned increasingly towards modern pop and international artists. While this approach certainly broadens the audience, it’s pivotal to remember the roots that have made American music what it is today.” The internet has already been bombarded with fake AI posters announcing that Strait will take Bad Bunny’s place.
Despite the support, the chances of the NFL changing its Halftime show pick are slim. That doesn’t leave conservatives and families without any options, however. Charlie Kirk’s TPUSA, now headed by his widow, Erika Kirk, announced it would be airing an alternative Halftime show at the same time as the Bad Bunny performance. “It’s true, Turning Point USA is thrilled to announce The All American Halftime Show,” TPUSA announced. The show announced it would be celebrating “faith, family, freedom.” The lineup for the event has yet to be released, but Kid Rock’s name has been floated as a possible headliner. Kid Rock has been a vocal supporter of President Trump and has the sort of all-American flair that conservatives appear to be yearning for. Christian artist Frank Forrest, who lost followers after posting in support of Kirk after his assassination has also discussed the possibility of an alternative Halftime show with worship leader Cory Asbury. “Every year, everyone is all up in arms about the performer for the halftime show, and I get it because, nine times out of 10, it’s raunchy as heck,” Asbury said. “You’re seeing stuff you don’t want to see [and] you’re hearing stuff you don’t want to hear, especially for your kids.” The Super Bowl Halftime Show will air February 8, 2026.
