Justin Bieber may be one of the most famous Christian celebrities in the world, but even he isn’t immune to a little mother-son tension over faith.

The 31-year-old singer recently responded to a prayer posted by his mom, Pattie Mallette, that asked for God’s healing over his life. Mallette’s post, shared Sept. 22, included several photos of her son along with a heartfelt intercession:

“I declare freedom, strength, clarity, and healing over you, Justin. Every chain of fear, confusion, heaviness, and pain – be broken in Jesus’ name. Holy Spirit, surround him with TRUTH, LIGHT, and PROTECTION. HEAL EVERY WOUND in his heart, mind and body, seen and unseen, restore what’s been stolen, and cover him in WHOLENESS.”

She went on to ask that Justin be “raised up as a voice for [God’s] Kingdom, unshaken and on fire for You Lord,” and encouraged her followers to agree in prayer with a simple “Amen.”

Two weeks later, Bieber commented on the post with what some saw as a dismissive—yet humorous—response. “The only thing I need healing from is my rolled pinky toe from playing ping pong,” he wrote.

The comment came as a surprise to many of Mallette’s followers, who were touched by her passionate prayer. But Bieber himself has not shied away from talking about his faith. Just days before his mom’s post, he shared his own spiritual reflections online:

“Jesus teaches that our effort is simply a response to being gifted life and forgiveness. Jesus becomes the prize, and growth becomes something you desire because of the grace we have received,” Bieber wrote in an Instagram caption.

The playful exchange comes against a backdrop of heightened public concern about Bieber’s well-being. Over the past year, he has posted openly about his struggles with mental and emotional health, leading fans to speculate about his condition.

In response, his team told TMZ the speculation is “exhausting and pitiful,” adding that “despite the obvious truth, people are committed to keeping negative, salacious, harmful narratives alive.”

Instead, Bieber is said to be focusing on two things: being a dad and making music. He and his wife, Hailey Bieber, welcomed their first child, a son named Jack, in August.

Despite tabloid headlines, Bieber’s creative output has been strong in 2025. In July, he released Swag, a 21-track album that included raw reflections on his marriage. In September, he followed up with Swag II, which featured faith-inspired songs like Everything Hallelujah and Story of God.

These tracks echo the faith journey Bieber has spoken about for years—one rooted in grace, forgiveness, and the pursuit of Jesus above fame.

For Pattie Mallette, prayer has always been her way of covering her son in love. And while Bieber’s response may have downplayed her concerns, their bond remains rooted in the same faith that has carried them both through public highs and lows.

As Bieber himself wrote, “Jesus becomes the prize.” Whether through his mom’s prayers or his own reflections, the young father and global superstar continues to point his audience toward the same source of hope.
