A resurfaced clip of a children’s show on Netflix that features a transgender character has sparked calls for a boycott and a series of cancelations. Libs of TikTok shared a post featuring clips from the now-canceled animated Netflix cartoon, Dead End: Paranormal Park. The show aired for two seasons on Netflix from June to October 2022. In the post, Libs of TikTok warned that the show was “pushing pro-transgender on CHILDREN.” “Parents- BEWARE,” the account added, noting that the show was marketed to children as young as seven. The clip features a character admitting to being trans to another character.

In another post, Libs of TikTok revealed that the show’s creator, Hamish Steele, had also made disparaging remarks about Charlie Kirk after he was assassinated. “You will never guess who the creator of this show is… a he/they lgbtq bluesky fan who mocked Charlie’s m*rder and called him a nazi Is anyone surprised??” wrote Libs of TikTok. In his post, Steele wrote, “Why the f— are you even commenting on this, d—head…a random nazi gets shot and it’s a public statement.” He has denied that he ever celebrated Kirk’s death.

Further attention was brought on the show and a bevy of other “woke” content featured on Netflix when Elon Musk shared another Libs of TikTok post featuring Netflix’s “inclusion and diversity report.” “[T]hey celebrate that the percentage of racially underrepresented directors and lead characters has been growing significantly over the past few years. Why doesn’t netflix hire based on qualifications instead of skin color??” wrote Libs of TikTok. In his repost, Musk added, “Cancel Netflix.”

Since then, social media has been abuzz with clips of woke programming at Netflix. Commentator Ian Miles Cheong shared a clip from Cocomelon Lane of two gay dads encouraging their son to dance for them in a tutu. Libs of TikTok shared a clip from Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, another kids show, which features two women announcing their love for one another and kissing. “Isn’t it just supposed to be about dinosaurs? How many of these lgbtq propaganda shows are there on @netflix???” Writing an op-ed for USA Today, mother of four, Nicole Russell, questioned why only conservatives seem worried about sexual content aimed at children. “The strangest part about these shows is that they are made to entertain children, but this isn’t typical children’s content. It is actually quite rare for young children to question their gender identity or sexual orientation, especially prior to puberty,” wrote Russell, sharing statistics on the low amount of people with gender dysphoria who begin to question their gender at a young age and that many that do usually stop after puberty.

The calls for a boycott seem to have been effective. According to Forbes, stock in Netflix had dropped 2.2% since Wednesday. “Losing It,” wrote John Cremeans on X. “Netflix has lost OVER $15 BILLION in market value since users began canceling their subscriptions in protest of its “Woke” content. Did you cancel your subscription to Netflix?”
