Christian singer and pastor Tauren Wells turned a concert into a moment of intercession on Friday night, stopping mid-performance to lift up fellow artist David Crowder in prayer.

Crowder, best known for worship anthems like Good God Almighty, was originally scheduled to perform at the Shenandoah County Fair in Virginia but had to cancel after suffering a leg injury. Wells stepped in to fill his slot, but he said he felt God prompting him to go beyond just covering the stage.

“When God Puts Something on Our Hearts”

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Wells admitted he almost chose not to pray publicly. “I almost didn’t do this for fear of being misunderstood,” he wrote. “But, when God puts something on our hearts, the only answer is, ‘Yes.’ What an honor it is to come before God on behalf of the people we love. If you’re reading this, would you pray for [Crowder’s] rapid healing with us?”

Before leading the crowd in prayer, Wells told concertgoers it would “be so encouraging to Crowder if we all pray for him and let him know that this family out here at the Shenandoah County Fair made some space to bless our brother.”

Crowder Responds With Gratitude

Crowder quickly responded to Wells’ act of kindness. “My brother! You are beyond kind!” he wrote on social media. “I appreciate you so much for covering for me and leading so well. You are a gift to the people of God, friend. I receive it, in Jesus’ name!! Amen!”

Wells also made it clear that it was an honor to take the stage in Crowder’s place. “This was supposed to be Crowder’s show, but because of his broken leg, he couldn’t play it, so we stepped in! Honored! We love you, bro!” he said.

Not the First Time

This is not the first time Wells has used his platform in this way. On July 28, at the Ohio State Fair, he paused a concert to pray for singer-songwriter Forrest Frank, who fractured his L2 and L3 vertebrae after a skateboarding accident. Wells described Frank’s injury as an “attack” against him, but Frank later testified to miraculous healing.

Wells’ decision to step out in faith has inspired many, reminding the Christian community of the power of prayer and the importance of lifting one another up in times of need.

As Wells put it, when God nudges us to act, the best response is always simple obedience.
