A new Trump-themed burger chain is becoming quite popular in Texas and that’s making some critics scratch their heads. Lebanese immigrant Roland Beainy started the “Trump Burger” chain with several locations throughout Texas. The restaurants are stocked with jokes against the president’s rivals, filled with merchandise, and covered with odes to the 45th and 47th president. For example, The Independent describes the Trump Tower Burger, which has “[1lb] of Aberdeen Angus beef patties, grilled onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce, two slices of white American cheese, onion rings and ‘homage’ barbecue and sriracha sauce.” The menu also jokes of a Biden Burger (or the Harris Burger depending on the location), which is made up of 1oz of cheese, an old tomato, and “our oldest buns.” The fake burger is priced at $50.99 but is not available because of “cheating and inflation.”

The Houston Chronicle’s restaurant critic, Bao Ong, described his own experience in the Houston branch. “I’m waiting for my order at Trump Burger in Houston surrounded by merchandise including baseball caps emblazoned with ‘Trump 2024 The Revenge Tour’ and red T-shirts featuring a favorite line from the 47th President of the United States, ‘You’re fake news!’” he wrote. When asked by another patron who he voted for in 2016, Ong replied, “I can barely remember. That was a long time ago.” His review called the restaurant “consistent in its blandness,” although he did praise the First Lady Chicken Sandwich and milkshake.

Brittany Britto Garley of Eater Houston, noted that the Houston branch was “was met with middle fingers from passing drivers” in the predominantly Democrat city. Garley said the “burger patties are thick but bland, topped with a waxy cheese.” The “vibe” was also uncomfortable for Garley, who noted she is a woman of color. “If you are someone who voted for Trump and supports his administration’s many compromising decisions, this place is likely for you,” she wrote. “However, for those who see Trump’s legacy differently — as a man who has deported innocent people; stoked division; subverted the Constitution; and acted against values that include equality, access, and opportunity — eating here feels like an endorsement of someone whose vitriolic rhetoric has harmed, in many cases irreparably, the people he was elected to serve.”

A spokesperson for Trump Burger pushed back at the negative reviews, calling them “fake news.” “The Houston Chronicle maintains a predominantly liberal stance, so we expected nothing less than a biased take on anything bearing the Trump name,” said the official. Supporters, however, praised the chain. “[T]rump burger in houston?” wrote one user on X. “[B]et the woke crowd’s already protesting with vegan tears and gluten-free rage.”
