Tim Tebow says he is pausing his relationship with Christian conference company Life Surge following allegations that the organization used high-pressure sales tactics to sell attendees expensive financial and investment programs.

The former NFL quarterback and outspoken Christian said he was “caught off guard” by the allegations, which surfaced in a joint investigation by “Pablo Torre Finds Out” and Mother Jones.

“I think the allegations are extremely, extremely serious, and it’s something that we take very seriously,” Tebow told the Gainesville Sun. “We’re having our team do an investigation, but also pausing our relationship so we can learn more about the facts to be able to understand more.”

Tebow, 39, has served as a “Kingdom Ambassador” for Life Surge and appeared as a featured speaker at the organization’s “faith and finance” events. Life Surge describes its events as bringing together worship, Christian speakers and financial education.

The investigation alleges the organization has used well-known Christian personalities to draw people to its events before marketing costly financial and investment training programs. Some former attendees interviewed for the report claimed they felt pressured to spend thousands of dollars on courses.

When asked whether he had any knowledge of the alleged practices before the investigation was published, Tebow said he had only recently learned about the claims.

“Honestly, I was at an anti-human trafficking conference yesterday, and the team shared with me when we were leaving as we were flying to Alabama for an event,” he said. “Kind of caught off guard with some of it, and that’s why we’re trying to understand more of the facts to really learn it.”

Tebow also stressed that his involvement with Life Surge centered on sharing his Christian faith rather than promoting financial products.

“In my heart, getting to share [at Life Surge] was to be able to share something that I love to share, which is the love of Christ and the good news of the gospel,” Tebow said.

The Heisman Trophy winner has been one of the most visible Christian athletes in the country for years, frequently speaking publicly about Jesus and incorporating his faith into his charitable work. Through the Tim Tebow Foundation, he has supported initiatives involving children with medical needs, human trafficking survivors and other vulnerable populations.

Tebow did not announce whether he would permanently end his association with Life Surge, saying his team first wants to determine what happened.

“It’s really important to get answers to understand every bit of that,” he said.

For now, Tebow says his relationship with the organization is on hold as his team investigates the allegations and seeks more information.

“I think it’s really important that we can really understand all the facts and details of it,” he said.
